About the Artist

The Blues Berries have performed before thousands of young audiences in schools, festivals and community venues across North America for 20+ years with carefully designed programs that excite and inspire students to the joys of modern music. Having grown up on the blues themselves, each member of The Blues Berries hopes to give children an appreciation for the blues, both its deep-rooted history and the rich, emotional sounds of the music itself.

History of the Blues Virtual Program

The History of the Blues is a powerful show from one of Canada’s best-known groups for introducing popular music to young audiences. The pre-recorded performance traces the history of blues with an emphasis on how it has influenced popular music today. The performance tells the social and musical history of the Blues from Field Hollers to Hip Hop. Students will hear traditional field hollers to songs by the White Stripes, Big Momma Thornton to Koko Taylor, Muddy Waters and the Sugar Hill Gang. Students will be clapping and singing along  while learning about vital social history.

Virtual Visit

You can add on a 20-minute virtual visit with one of the Blues Berries band members for your class or the entire school to ask questions about the show or the history of blues music.
